Here’s an important update to the New Jersey Anchor Property Tax Relief Program:
New Jersey will launch the NJ Anchor Program for tax year 2021 later this month. As in previous years, the benefits can be up to $1,500 for homeowners and up to $450 for renters. The timeline is as follows:
- Beginning August 19 – mailing of notification letters. If you receive a notification letter, the State will process your Anchor benefit assuming none of your information has changed.
- Beginning August 26 – residents who do not receive a notification letter will receive an application packet in the mail. Homeowners will receive a green packet, and renters will receive a purple packet.
- September 15th – deadline for filing an application if you had any changes or received an application packet in the mail.
- November 30th – deadline for filing an application for first time applicants.
While New Jersey would prefer applications to be submitted online at www.anchor.nj.gov you can submit a paper application.
Big Change for 2024
The State of New Jersey is very concerned about identity theft and will require some taxpayers to verify their identity using ID.me.
ID.me is a website where you create an account, and the website will use biometric data to verify you. You may be asked to verify your identity regardless of whether you receive a notification letter or file an application packet. Once you have been verified, you will receive an ID number and a PIN number on the ID.me website that you will be need to submit your Anchor application.
If any of your information has changed, you will have to file a new application.
